Is writing different because of media? I don't think so (journal response)
I personally do not think that 21st century media changed how we have written in the past. I believe that the only thing that truly changed from past media and current media is the scale of audience and how quickly we can get our writing out there. Just because we have found a way to expedite the delivery of our writing it does not mean that we are writing differently from how we as a people wrote in the past. For example, I believe that advertising has been relatively the same throughout history. In the end the message is usually the same, "come here and buy our thing please." Even though media has evolved, the message is usually pretty much the same. At first there might be a simple sign in front of the store saying "come on in and buy our thing" and that form of media is still used today! Now on the internet, that ad might be revised to "here is our location so come on in and buy our thing please." The message is still essentially the same, the only thing that is different is that the range of people who can see the ad is much larger. The same thing happens with news. We now have instant access to news as it happens thanks to the internet, but the message is still the same. "Here is a thing that is happening," that has been the news throughout history whether it was delivered on a newspaper or you found it on the internet. Let's take it one step further and talk about writing books. In the past, the only way to get your book out there was to have it published by some company. Now, you can self-publish on the internet and there are even blogs where writers show off their stuff. But do you think if the writer of the past had access to the internet, the message they wanted to deliver would change? I personally think not. I think they would of jumped for joy because people would be able to read their stuff sooner than they expected. In the end, writing has been relatively the same throughout history and the main thing that changes is what we used to deliver our message.
