Journal Response 1

Writing has both remained the same and become revolutionary different over time because the platform, audience, and magnitude of writers has changed drastically, especially in the age of technology, however the overall idea of writing has remained the same. There are several social media and digital outlets for people to express their thoughts and ideas, especially the younger generation, that would not have been as readily available in the past. There is less of a boundary between having an idea and wanting to share it with others than what we were limited to in just a world of print, an idea can now spawn in a room in a small town and quickly spread to other cities, and even countries through a social media platform like Twitter. A written conversation could take weeks to convey just a simple message, waiting for a reply in the post, and written conversations now take just a matter of seconds to go back and forth between two people in varying locations. With the newly emerging platforms for writing, the audience of written responses has also expanded, before publications would have been limited to a specific group of people, like a newspaper being limited to members of the town where it was published or a magazine only being readily available to people who were subscribed to it. The news is now available on the internet on numerous websites and in several different styles, whether it be a right or left wing news source, or even a site like Buzzfeed that provides comedic news stories that anyone can find captivating. The new abundance of writing mediums has also created in an influx of new writers, who would never had had their voices heard in the past, that can now reach out to leaders and bond with people who share the same ideas that are millions of miles away. The concept of writing however, has remained the same it’s still a way for people to express themselves to an audience in non-verbal manner, and whether it be in print or digital, it’s still the same form of writing and the same experience, just with more ways to share an idea and people to experience it.
