Journal 5

If we are talking about mobility, I am going to assume we mean people actually physically moving from location to location.  At the very least, that is the assumption I am going to write in.  Mobility in writing is interesting because you can write anywhere, but why move?  I think the main reason mobility and writing goes together is because people who are moving are hoping to collaborate with other writers.  One of the many things that we have to learn as writers is that we have to learn to work together.  Yes, we can somehow work together without ever meeting each other thanks to how technology has advanced.  In fact, I am sure that is how many writers get things done in a group setting.  However, to truly collaborate with one another, we are going to have to actually meet each other and work together.  In writing, there are ideas that is best expressed in person and if you are actually working in the same room, it is much easier to collaborate and work with each other.  This is what mobility is for.  Mobility is the ability to move between different places.  We need to be willing to travel to different places to work with other writers.  Take me for example.  I actually have applied for a writing internship this summer.  Now, if I actually do get this internship, I will have to move to California to work with other writers.  Why would I do that?  Why can I not work here in Tallahassee and collaborate with those writers on the internet?  Well it is very simple, to gain as much as I can from these writers I want to work with, I actually have to be there so they can correct me, work with me, and to learn from them.  Plus, it is easier to work in a team of people that you have actually met.  See, mobility is all about moving from one location to another and with writing, it is to our benefit to change location if the need comes up.
