Mobility has completely transformed the way that people write and interact with their surroundings. Technologies such as laptops, digital cameras, and cell phones allow writers to move around freely while creating shareable knowledge. In the 16th and 17th centuries, people were advised to seek out and engage in scholarly discourse as a way of experiencing the world. Overtime, the belief shifted. Seeing the world proved to be more important than just listening to someone speak about it. Sightseeing evolved into a more passionate engagement, with tourists not just simply observing sights but by interacting with them through the purchase of souvenirs. This engagement later evolved into writing letters to send home, taking photographs, recording videos, writing blog posts, updating social media accounts, sending emails, and more. The relationship between mobility and modern technology allows networks of travelers and aspiring travelers to interact and share ideas. They can share photos, travel updates, and recommendations for future travels. Using technology while traveling helps to restructure relations between readers and environment. By viewing something instant directly from the source, readers are more likely to form a more pure, unbiased view of the world.
