Mobility in the sense of actual physical movement and mobility in the sense of circulation of ideas and knowledge and technology creates a never ending, constantly changing environment for writing to take place. With the amount of technological advances in the last ten years, the ability to move and still write and circulate that writing has advanced incredibly. Laptops, tablets, and smartphones have begun a new revolution of travel writers who can actually write their experiences from the very places they are blogging about. The pictures someone takes can be uploaded to the Internet with a well informed caption in a matter of seconds, maybe a minute tops.
What's changed about writing is that, in my opinion, has become much simpler. What I mean is that a lot of time, especially when someone is writing from a mobile device, your message is cut to 140 characters, or it's a caption on a photo. It's top trending topic headlines and clickbait articles swarming your Facebook feed. Thinking back, I can't remember the last time I read an article that wasn't a few sentences mixed with photos. Yet, these articles get the information across just as well as a text heavy article in the newspaper. Web based, mobile friendly text is made for the younger generations built upon mobile media and are used to looking at an app or a minute or so at a time.
On the other hand, look at what we're doing right now. With a mobile device-- a laptop-- I'm writing a commentary that is a few paragraphs long and has a total of zero photos.
