Journal Response 5

Mobility has developed a special relationship with writing through the use of different technologies to gain knowledge about ourselves and connect with others around us. Certain platforms for communication such as social media websites, discussion boards, and blogs, afford new ways for travelers to connect and collaborate with each other in ways which has not been available in the past. Interactions between travelers on sites such as Facebook, or Couchsurfing.org, has proven the importance and potential for social connectivity. “As interactive travelers navigate through these digitally connected environments, they evoke connectivity as a way of making sense of their online presence and their interactive practices as a foundation for other strategies of knowledge-production.” Being able to write on-the-go has opened a new world for travelers because it gives them the ability to access knowledge about their next destination for example, or even consult others through a blog about the best places to eat in the city they are in. In addition, new media platforms such as Instagram or even Snapchat allow travelers to instantly showcase what they are doing so that friends and family can be up to date, and virtually right there next to them as they continue their travels. This is why mobile modes of connecting, collaborating, and searching thus constitute not only ways of knowing, but a new hands-on method of mobile social life.
