Networks, writing, and materiality are terms that correlate
with one another. Writing is seen in many different places and is communicated
through different networks and can take the shape of different materials. Paper
is one type of material that can act as a method of communication for
individuals. When letters used to be received they were considered an event
because they were not something that occurred daily. The letter had to
go through many different people and could take 40 days to reach a person. Now
people get mail such as bills and ads every single day. Mail is a common occurrence
and it is sent and received in a much quicker way than in the past. Letters, mail, bills, and magazines are all
ways that writing and materiality go hand in hand. Another way materiality and
writing correlate with one another is with the use of billboards, signs, and
posters. These are all ways that writing and messages are transcribed for mass
amounts of people. Even though writing can be communicated to many people
through this medium it is faster and can be delivered to more people through
the use of a different network. Writing and networks have a
relationship and it is a relationship that is both online and in person. Online there are different social networks
that make writing and communicating easier than their physical counterpart. An
email is received in seconds in comparison to a letter that can take days. This
is a way that a network is aiding writing and communication. Some forms of
writing, depending on their materiality, have different kinds of networks. A
Facebook or instagram post has a larger network than a letter because it can be
viewed by many people instead of just one person. Social medias have created a
larger network for writing to be communicated faster and more efficiently to
the most amounts of people. All texts have a different
materiality and they have different networks that help different types of
writing to be communicated. The relationship between networks, writing, and,
materiality is that they are all interconnected to help communicate
in different ways.
