Journal #3

Circulation itself and the potential for circulation both contribute to the composing process. The main reason that circulation is important to the composing process is because, like it says in Spreadable Media, if it doesn’t spread its dead. The concept behind this is that all media needs to be circulated because if its not then no one is ever seeing the information and all the work put into a piece of writing becomes pointless. When a writer writes something they need to be thinking how their piece of writing is going to be distributed and how that method of distribution will allow the piece of writing to be interpreted. If it’s not distributed in the most efficient manner then the writers piece will not be circulated to its full potential.
A good example of this if is someone is updating his or her Facebook status. They can either have their status viewed by the public or just viewed by friends. This allows the writers message to be circulated in different ways and it also can alter what an individual writes. A persons audience can determine what they write, how they write it, and their overall message. If someone is writing a personal message they would send it to one person in a private conversation not upload it for the whole world to see. Circulation is a key factor in determining what and how a writer is going to write.
While writing and factoring in how a piece is going to be circulated a writer needs to think about their audience. If a piece of writing is circulated in a certain way who are the readers going to be? What is the age range of the readers, their education, background etc.? Also while writing a writer needs to consider if they want this message seen by everyone. Once something is posted on the Internet, even if they later delete it, it is there forever. The Internet allows for something to be circulated to the masses in an immediate way. This is beneficial to a writer yet can also hinder a writer because what if they say something in a moment of anger they later regret. These are ways that a writer needs to consider the role circulation plays during the composing process.
