Journal Post #3

In my project-- though I talked about audience-- I briefly mentioned the idea that knowing how large or broad your audience will be affects how you write your piece of media. Of course, the size and demographics of your audience come from how far and wide the text circulates. With platforms such as Buzzfeed working to create the perfect formula for a viral video or article, there is a definite way to try and mold your text into whatever you want it to be.

This blog is a prime example. I know that, most likely, this post will not travel further than our class. So, I'm writing this for this class. If I thought that the circulation of this post would extend it out to other audiences, I'd probably explain things more so someone not familiar with the key terms of this class could get a full understanding of what I was saying.

On the other hand, let's bring it back to Buzzfeed. Buzzfeed is known for creating viral videos and articles that circulate worldwide in a matter of days. They have the incredible challenge of creating content that spans genres, cultures, languages, etc. They have to constantly think about how various possible audiences will react to the product they're putting out. It sort of is the same thing as when you make a Facebook status-- you know that your friends and family are going to see that post, so you write it accordingly. Maybe you don't include the expletive you normally would have if you were texting a single person. Possibly you use better grammar and less text slang.

Having the Internet as a platform has made circulation faster and easier than it's ever to circulate texts, and so more thought has to go into creating texts than ever before.
