Journal Response 3

Nowadays, circulation is happening at a faster rate than ever before. With the use of social media sites like Facebook and Twitter, one post has the ability to be shared to hundreds of thousands of people in a matter of seconds. The fact that they know that the message posted can be seen by so many people, writers have to think twice about what they’re going to post. For instance, I know if I’m going to post a Facebook status and pictures on my Facebook wall, I make sure to make it appropriate because that post will circulate to my family members, former teachers, and possible/current co-workers and employers. The composing process takes more time due to the rapid rate of circulation. When you’re composing something, you also have to keep the audience in mind. That’s why when composing a tweet for example, users usually tweet things that might seem relatable to others or something funny, so that other Twitter users can “retweet” or “like” the tweet. A lot of users have this mentality to just tweet things to get more followers and notifications, but it’s really how the social media site works. Not all users do this, but several users do in fact compose tweets just to make it popular among users and have their name out there. If they didn’t care about having their tweet circulated, the users would just compose anything that they’re thinking of and just tweet it out. A lot of users, including myself, have to think about composing a tweet for several minutes, I even keep it on my drafts for a while to make sure it’s something worth posting about. We tend to always overthink what we post online because one mistake or misunderstanding can change the way or the message intended for the original post. I know this issue happens to celebrities a lot because they need to keep a certain “reputable” image. Since their tweets are circulated to millions of people in a second, their composing process is probably longer than anyone else’s in order to make sure it’s something that isn’t controversial. That’s why they have a PR team and a publicist, to make sure they keep a good image. Circulation does have a great impact in the composing process and can be a good thing in terms of proofreading a message and making sure that it’s appropriate for audiences.
