Circulation, or
the potential for circulation, has a significant importance to the composition
of a text through a few different ways. One of the most important aspects to
consider is the platform in which you will pass along your information. In
todays modern age of technology, the distribution or “spreadability” of content
has never been easier. Social media websites such as Facebook and Twitter, make
sharing information much faster and allows for a more informal type of
communication. “Spreadability recognizes the importance of the social
connections among individuals, connections increasingly made visible (and
amplified) by social media platforms” (Jenkin 4). This approach places an
importance on audience, and their interaction with media texts and the way it
circulates. After you have decided which platform you would like to use to
distribute your text, the next important thing to consider is who is your
intended audience. How will this writing or information be received by the
public? Analyzing your audience will help in discovering information that can
build a common ground between you and the audience. This relates to
circulation, because the more receptive an audience is to what they are
reading, the more likely they are to share, and repost about it. Furthermore, knowing
how you want to distribute your information or piece of writing, and who you
want reading it, is key to the circulation of that text and to the overall
composition process.
